April 4 to November 8, 2020
The exhibition presents for the first time to the public a selection of works by the artist of Calais origin (1887-1968), to whom no monographic exhibition has been devoted since her disappearance.
In 2016, the city of Calais received a legacy of an exceptional collection of more than 170 works and documents representative of the entire career of Jeanne Thil.
The artist painted historical decorations for her hometown and other cities of Pas-de-Calais, but she is best known for her paintings inspired by her travels on both sides of the Mediterranean, in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and especially in Tunisia.
The exhibition focuses on the meaning of distant travel for a French painter from the first half of the 20th century.
Visitors will discover paintings an drawings by the artist, as well as various documents and objects.
